Job Title – Capacity Building Coordinator – Part-time/Term or possible independent contract (ending September 2025 with possibility of extension/increasing hours as funding becomes available)
Reports to – Executive Director, NSNPHA
Effective Date – ASAP
Compensation – Hourly rate to be negotiated based on experience and qualifications, with an expected annual range of $50,000 to $67,000 for a 12-month contract.
Position Summary:
The mission of NSNPHA is to support the mobilization, empowerment, growth and sustainability of Nova Scotia’s non-profit housing providers and the informal housing groups, networks, and coalitions that support their work. The Capacity BuildingCoordinator position will support Nova Scotia organizations engaged in planning and pre-development work for affordable housing projects. Focuses on conducting initial assessments with members seeking assistance, identifying next steps, and connecting organizations with the appropriate consultants, resources, and services to successfully navigate the complexities of affordable housing development. The Capacity Building Coordinator will be a strong relationship developer who possesses previous experience with working collaboratively with various funders, contractors, developers, client organizations, and the overall community.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum post-secondary education equivalent to three years of study i.e. Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in the community housing sector; working with/in a non-profit environment (preferred). Demonstrated experience in capacity building and consultation.
- Current Nova Scotia resident, Nova Scotia Driver’s License, and ability to travel provincewide.
- Hands-on Microsoft 365, data collection, research software, and a variety of virtual collaboration platforms.
- Full membership or eligibility for membership certification with the relevant professional association(s).
Required skills:
- Strong understanding of affordable housing development processes, funding mechanisms, and regulatory environments.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Financial literacy: Proficiency in financial management, pro formas, budgeting
- A strong team player; proven effective communicator, both internally and externally.
- A self-starter, strong time management skills, ability to manage a workload and multiple priorities, implement programs and goals, and effectively track information.
- Ability to work independently and remotely
- Proven ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
