    Digby & Area Housing Coalition Society is a non profit volunteer organization; formed in 2021 and is not owned, nor operated on behalf of any government entity. We are a small but determined group who are working to find and develop ways of funding, that will enable our vision of affordable housing in the town of Digby and environs. Dedicated to promoting a resilient, vibrant community through housing and social enterprise.

    • Raise money for and oversee affordable, energy efficient, sustainable housing projects in collaboration with all stakeholders: the Town of Digby, the Municipality, community agencies, and the general public.
    • Carry out research and education projects to benefit consumers, the residential construction industry and community housing sector.

    The Native Council of Nova Scotia is the self-governing authority for the large community of Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal peoples residing off-reserve in Nova Scotia throughout traditional Mi’kmaq territory. Our goal is to operate and administer a strong and effective Aboriginal Peoples Representative Organization that serves, advocates and represents our community.

    The Nova Scotia Co-operative Council is an economic and social development agency, funded by co-operatives and credit unions, and has operated in Nova Scotia for 75 years. The Council is a leader in affordable housing with 87 units under management and more to come. In addition, the Council provides mentoring and leadership support to other groups wanting to address housing issues in their community.

    Cumberland Homelessness and Housing Support Association was created in 2018. Our Association was incorporated in the same year and governed by an executive committee and broader board of directors. We received our charitable status in November 2020. In late 2022 the Town of Amherst granted us the funding to hire our first Executive Director, Ashley Legere, who was officially appointed in late February of 2023.

    We are focused on helping those in Cumberland County address challenges related to homelessness and housing insecurity through the creation of accommodation options and wrap-around support services. The vision of CHHSA is to ensure everyone in Cumberland County has access to safe, affordable, and stable housing. To fulfill our vision, we will create a Community Housing Hub, a multi-purpose facility that provides supportive programming and housing solutions to people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.

    Our goal is to create more emergency accommodation and affordable housing options as well as to provide support for individuals and families in Cumberland County experiencing housing challenges
