Additionally, the housing team assists hundreds more within the community, helping them secure safe and affordable housing along with continuous support services for stable housing, food, clothing, and community connections.

    The services we offer generate revenue, which is then reinvested into New Dawn.     The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is an international Catholic volunteer organization established in 1833 by Frédéric Ozanam, a young student at the University of Sorbonne in Paris. Inspired by Saint Vincent de Paul, the organization provides holistic support to impoverished individuals and families. SSVP has expanded to over one hundred countries, including Canada, where it started in Halifax in 1853, beginning with home visits to offer firewood, food, friendship, and care. Today, the Halifax Particular Council coordinates the activities of sixteen conferences throughout the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth, continuing to address the root causes of poverty while offering practical assistance.

Owning and managing fifty-four properties comprising one hundred and forty-five units under the Urban Native Housing Program and the Private Non-Profit Housing Program, Tawaak focuses on meeting the distinct housing needs of the urban Aboriginal population. Its portfolio is mostly in Halifax and Dartmouth, with additional properties in Sydney, Truro, Antigonish, Liverpool, and Bridgewater. Supported by both the Federal Government and the Government of Nova Scotia, Tawaak Housing has significantly enhanced the quality of housing for Aboriginal communities through culturally sensitive administration and support.
